The National Peace Officers Association (NPOA) was established by Officer Joseph Jackson of the Ansonia, CT Police Department. Once a police officer, ALWAYS a police officer for LIFE. The commitment to serve law enforcement and the community lives within each of us. After dedicating 31 years to the force and upon retirement, I felt a strong calling, alongside other retired officers and active police officers from various law enforcement services, to continue advocating for our communities and working alongside law enforcement in every possible way.
We are excited to introduce the NPOA, your reliable second backup union. This association stands as your advocate, guarding your rights and giving voice to your concerns in matters of discrimination and other challenges that may arise.
We have your back and will unwaveringly support you. The NPOA's mission is to promote equality and professionalism in law enforcement. Our objectives include fostering a fraternal and professional association that equips members and the community through career training, conferences, and workshops to further education, enhance career advancement, and strengthen our commitment to community service.
Our association contributes to various initiatives, such as citizenship programs, mentorship opportunities, elementary school reading programs, training for aspiring law enforcement professionals, and promotional workshops designed specifically for law enforcement agencies.
**MISSION**
The mission of the NPOA is to eradicate prejudice and discrimination within the criminal justice system, particularly in law enforcement. We aim to create an association that offers support, advocacy, and personal and professional development to its members. We also work to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency while alleviating neighborhood tensions through awareness and role modeling, ensuring we bridge the gap between the community and police.

The NPOA is poised to positively impact the law enforcement process throughout our nation, establishing a supportive association that inspires change for the betterment of all citizens. Recognizing the diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds of those served by the criminal justice system, we are committed to ensuring it is responsive to the entire community.
Working in partnership with law enforcement and the community, the NPOA actively seeks to recruit individuals for employment within the criminal justice system, striving to enhance the quality of life for all citizens.
**NPOA MEMBERS CORE BENEFITS DEFINED**
NPOA members benefit from state-of-the-art national and local training to advance their careers. This includes assistance with promotional testing, participation in study groups, and training for various assignments, such as technical roles and task force duties. The NPOA maintains a list of law enforcement agencies actively seeking transfers or Spanish-speaking officers. Our mentorship program supports members throughout their law enforcement academies and the critical first year in non-permanent roles, providing them with solid and ethical guidance.
**NPOA Legal Defense Program**
While members are encouraged to first consult their unions or police/corrections associations regarding employment interests, our optional NPOA Legal Defense Program is available for employment-related events that require legal representation. This includes officer-involved shootings and internal affairs investigations, providing peace of mind throughout your law enforcement career.
**NPOA Employment Advocacy**
In instances requiring a response to adverse actions based on discrimination or patterns within law enforcement agencies, the NPOA will evaluate your case and, where warranted, assist with filing EEO complaints. We also provide recommendations for attorneys to address adverse employment actions, directly filing with the U.S. Department of Justice when necessary.
**National Affiliations with Several Online Colleges**
NPOA members enjoy deep tuition discounts, the ability to receive college credit for prior police training, acceptance of prior college credits, and access to national and chapter scholarship opportunities—all accredited by the National Association of Colleges and Universities.
**NPOA Leadership Development**
Members receive training in the latest leadership methodologies, encompassing first-line supervision, mid-level management, and executive law enforcement training. The NPOA also offers access to lists for Chief positions and federal law enforcement appointments, allowing members to engage with various chapters across the United States while serving on interest-specific law enforcement committees.
